Wetland Restoration

More and more land custodians -- private owners, businesses, and government agencies -- are beginning to recognize the value of wetlands. Not only do wetlands support a wide variety of birds and other wildlife, they perform valuable hydrological functions, contribute to groundwater recharge, improve water quality, and offer recreational and economic benefits. Restoring our lost and degraded wetlands to their natural state is essential to ensure the health of America's watershed.

After many years of subsidized programs to drain wetlands, a reverse process is now in effect. Many federal agencies, Native American tribes, states, non-governmental organizations, businesses, and private individuals are now actively restoring wetlands.

Natural wetlands, even after being drained and filled, often retain their characteristic soil and hydrology. This means their natural functions can be reclaimed. Even when a wetland is destroyed to make way for development, its valuable functions can be re-created or replaced by creating a new replacement wetland.

But proper wetland restoration or creation is a complex process that requires careful planning, implementation, monitoring, and management. And that's where Enchanted Gardens can help. We have years of experience in renewing natural wetlands that have been lost or degraded, creating new wetlands and producing new ecosystems.
